- Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert E. Seiler, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Missouri (1975-1976)
- Visiting Professor of Dentistry, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry (teacher of dental jurisprudence and ethics) (1979, 1987-1993).
- Lecturer, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine (teacher of medical jurisprudence and ethics) (1987-93).
- Faculty Member, Appellate Advocacy Program, National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
- Reporter, New Jury Law Committee of the Missouri Bar's Judicial Administration Division (1984-1989). The committee consisted of five judges and myself. We researched and drafted a new comprehensive, state-wide statute which was endorsed by the Missouri Bar's Board of Governors, enacted by the 85th General Assembly as HB283, and signed by Governor Ashcroft in July, 1989.
- Adjunct Assistant Professor of Business Law, Rockhurst College (1980-1981).
- Member, The Missouri Bar's Appellate Practice Project Committee (1988-1989, 1992, 1997).
- Vice-Chairman, National Conference on Historic Preservation Law (1980).

- Member of the Missouri Bar: Member, Board of Governors (1997-1999); Member, Civil Practice and Procedure Committee (1976-present); Chairman, Appellate Practice Subcommittee (1988-present).
- Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers: Chairman, Committee on Bibliography for Appellate Specialists.
- Membership in the Academy is by invitation only, is limited to no more than 400 practicing lawyers in the United States, and requires a minimum of fifteen years of successful experience in appellate advocacy. A nominee's professional work and character must earn the recommendation of adversary counsel and of the judges before whom he or she has appeared. The Academy elected me to Fellowship in 1993. I was the first Fellow elected from Missouri and the sixty-sixth member nationally.
